Man Flees CHP in Stolen Vehicle, Juvenile Passenger Caught

A California Highway Patrol pursuit of a stolen car ended in Coachella Friday, with the driver crashing into a mortuary, then getting out and running, a CHP officer said.

Two CHP officers saw a 2009 Nissan Versa speed through a stop sign at 52nd Avenue and Monroe Street about 1:35 a.m. and, when they approached the vehicle, it sped east on 52nd, CHP Officer Mike Radford said.

The driver tried to turn left onto Jackson Street and crashed into the Forest Lawn building at Jackson and 52nd, he said.

The driver got out and ran, but a juvenile passenger was detained and taken JFK Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Radford said.

The Nissan was reported stolen.
