Man Shot In Indio, Hospitalized

The shooting was reported about 4 p.m. at the Desert Palms Apartment in the 46000 block of Clinton Street, police said.

A man was shot in the chest area tonight in Indio and was hospitalized in serious condition, officials said.

The shooting was reported about 4 p.m. at the Desert Palms Apartment, in the    46500 block of Clinton Street, according to Indio police information officer Benjamin Guitron.
The victim was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, Guitron said.
His name and age were not released.
People at the apartment complex said they saw the victim speaking with a group but then he was not seen again, Guitron said.

``Then all of a sudden they heard several gunshots," Guitron said.

Residents found him lying on the ground with a gunshot wound, Guitron said.

Police surrounded the site and searched for a suspect but could find no one, according to Guitron.

Witness reports indicated that a man wearing a gray shirt ran from the apartments, carrying a pistol, Guitron said.
``We suspect he had something to do with the shooting,'' Guitron said.
