A man was shot Saturday afternoon while driving along Interstate 10, a Palm Desert sheriff's sergeant reported.

The shooting happened about 3:15 p.m. when the 24-year-old victim was driving westbound on the 10 near Date Palm Drive, according to Sgt. Angie Navarro. The suspect vehicle, described as a white 4-door sedan, allegedly drove up next to the victim, got his attention and fired several shots at him, officials said.

The victim, a Palm Springs resident, suffered a single gunshot wound. Sheriff's deputies responded to Desert Regional Hospital at about 5 p.m. to interview him about the shooting.

The investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call Investigator Denise Porras of the Palm Desert Station at 760-836-1600.
