Missing Palm Desert Teen Found Safe At Palm Springs Park

Police made contact with 19-year-old John Sutherland at Sunrise Park in Palm Springs.

A Palm Desert teenager who had been missing since Sunday was found today at a Palm Springs park.

Palm Springs police officers apparently made contact with 19-year-old John Sutherland at Sunrise Park in Palm Springs, according to Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for evaluation, according to Palm Springs police Officer Rhonda Long.

He was found ``hanging out at Sunrise Park,'' near Ramon Road, at 1:50 p.m., Long said.

Sutherland "did not appear to be injured or in need of immediate medical care,'' according to sheriff's Sgt. Andrew Nielsen.

Sutherland walked away from his home about 2 p.m. Sunday, according to a sheriff's sergeant.

Sutherland, who is a diabetic who needs insulin, did not have medication with him when he left, sheriff's officials said.

His family put out a missing person report about 11:15 Sunday night.
