More Than 20 People Rescued from Broken Ferris Wheel in Palm Desert

Firefighters say a total of 22 people had to perform "... an aerial technical rescue" when the ride malfunctioned.

A ride on a Ferris wheel took a wrong turn when a drive cable snapped and left 22 people hanging in their cars in Palm Desert, a spokeswoman said Saturday.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:35 p.m. Friday to the Marriott Desert Springs resort, where a private event was taking place.

The ride's operators called 911 when the ride could not be moved manually, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to safely remove all 22 patrons from their cars. No injuries were reported, Hendrickson said.  By 1:45 a.m., everyone was down from the ride.

Look at list of things from "More from Patch" -- only one story relates to Palm Desert - the fire one -- how horrible -- is Palm Desert Patch competing with the National Enquirer now? And on Mother's Day?

On Mothers Day, I was enjoying being a mother and spending the day with my family. So, no, there wasn't anything new posted. Sorry if you were disappointed in local news on the weekend.

Well, at least that's what we always talk about when we're golfing, having a drink at the club, enjoying happy hour eating and joking at happy hour with our neighbours on the patio. lol How many people got rescued today, and will they be able to 'rescue' me from the dreaded ferris wheel or tea-cup ride? Or, will I die there like some aging version of Nell, yelling, "Help. The politicians are tying me to the railroad tracks!" lol Maybe....but more than likely, I'll be in Indio, where the average age is 32, at one festival or another.
