Motor Home Fire on EB Interstate 10, Traffic Backs Up Due to Heavy Smoke

A motor home caught fire Monday on eastbound Interstate 10 east of Dillon Road and one lane was closed as of 1:20 p.m. Sept. 16, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said in a phone interview.

The fire was reported at 12:33 p.m. with a mobile home pulled over and flames underneath, near mile marker 67, according to the CHP.

Cal Fire was notified and as of 12:40 p.m. there was a report of a propane tank exploding and both lanes of the eastbound 10 were blocked, according to the CHP.

By 12:55 p.m., the motor home was reported completely burned. Just before 1 p.m. both lanes of the eastbound freeway were reported closed due to heavy black smoke, according to the CHP.

At one point eastbound traffic was reported backed up three miles.

Cal Fire-Riverside County units were at the scene, with three engines and a water tender, Mark Annas of Cal Fire said in a phone interview at 1:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported, Annas said.
