OC Man Arrested in DUI Crash Near Firehouse Restaurant

Palm Desert police say the man crashed in a parking lot near Gerald Ford Drive and Cook Street Monday night.

A Costa Mesa man bailed out of the Indio jail Tuesday, a day after he was arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving— and crashing— in Palm Desert, jail and police records indicated.

51-year-old John Salmon was arrested Monday around 7 p.m. when Palm Desert police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Gerald Ford and Technology drives, just west of Cook Street, according to sheriff's sergeant Patrick Carroll.

According to Carroll, Salmon was driving south on Technology Drive, which is near The Firehouse Grille restaurant's parking lot, when he drove onto a sidewalk, and almost hit a building.

"The driver turned into a parking lot, drove up over a curb, and onto the sidewalk," Carroll said.  "The vehicle stopped and came to rest just short of hitting a building at the location."

After Salmon crashed his Infinity coupe, police arrested him on suspicion of DUI, according to Carroll.  The man was taken to the Riverside County jail in Indio, where he posted $2,500 bail the following morning.
