One Fatally Injured in Rollover Crash, Deputies Seek More Info

One person died in a single-vehicle rollover crash early Sunday in Coachella, and deputies were seeking an injured person who reportedly left the scene, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Deputies responded to the crash at 3:39 a.m. Dec. 22 in the 83000 block of Avenue 52, Sgt. Jon Gaw of the Thermal Station said.

"The vehicle, a white Dodge Ram pick-up truck, rolled over several times and came to rest at the above noted location," Gaw said. "The reporting party advised an occupant from the vehicle was on the ground in front of the location and appeared to be deceased."

The name of the person who died was withheld pending family notification.

"A second occupant from the vehicle was observed by witnesses crawling from the vehicle, and walking away from the scene," Gaw said. "That subject was observed entering another vehicle and leaving the scene. Alcohol is believed to be a possible factor in this collision."

Anyone with more info was urged to call Coachella Traffic investigators at (760) 863-8990, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867.
