A Palm Desert High student was tasered by sheriff's deputies when he pulled a knife while threatening to jump off the school's gymnasium this afternoon.
Just before 12 noon Wednesday, school officials were notified that an apparently distraught teen had made his way to the gym roof and was threatening to jump. A school officer sat on the roof with the teen and tried to talk him down.

"He was making statements that he wanted to end his life,'' sheriff's Deupty Angel Ramos said. When sheriff's deputies got on the roof, the student stood up, got out a pocketknife and "started to advance toward officers in a threatening manner,'' Ramos said. When he was a good distance from the edge of the roof, deputies used a Taser to subdue the student, who was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, Ramos said. No one else was hurt.
Palm Desert High was locked down for approximately 35 minutes during the incident.
