Palm Desert Home Damaged in Fire

The house caught fire Friday afternoon, Riverside County Fire Officials said.

A Palm Desert home was damaged Friday afternoon when a fire broke out for unknown reasons, but was quickly contained thanks to quick action by firefighters.

The blaze was reported at around 2:30 p.m., in the 44-700 block of San Juan Avenue, near Portola Avenue and Highway 111, fire officials reported.

"First arriving engine company reported a 3000 square foot, single family dwelling involved with fire," Riverside County Fire Spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

A total of 24 firefighters and 6 engines responded to the scene-- and had the fire under control within less than 20 minutes, Hendrickson said.

Though the fire was contained and controlled at 2:50 p.m., firefighters were slated to stay on scene for about 45 additional minutes to wrap up, Hendrickson added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
