Palm Desert Man Accused of DUI in Connection with Hit-and-Run

A Palm Desert man was arrested early Monday on suspicion of DUI in connection with a solo vehicle hit-and-run crash in Indian Wells, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The crash was reported about 1 a.m. Jan. 27 in the area of Highway 111 and Manitou Drive, Sgt. Andy Martinez of the sheriff's Palm Desert Station said in a statement.

"Upon arrival, officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle in the neighboring city of La Quinta," Martinez said. "This investigation determined that the driver and sole occupant, identified as Virgilio Forero, 66 of Palm Desert, was intoxicated during this accident."

Forero was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, Martinez said. He was later booked at Indio Jail, cited, and released on $2,500 bail, according to inmate records. He has a court date in April in Indio.
