Palm Desert Police to Amp Up DUI Patrols This Weekend

Police will send out a special team to look for and arrest suspected drunk and drugged drivers in Palm Desert on Friday and Saturday nights.

Palm Desert police will be out this weekend paying extra attention to any signs of intoxicated drivers on the roadways.

"The Palm Desert Police Department's DUI Enforcement Team will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the department's ongoing traffic safety campaign," said sheriff's Sergeant Dave Adams.

The patrols are scheduled to take place both Friday and Saturday nights, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3 a.m., Adams said.

"Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 4 lives and resulted in 60 injury crashes harming 87 of our friends and neighbors," he said.

Officers will expecially focuse on areas known to have "high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests," according to the sergeant.

Funding for the operation comes from state and federal grants, according to police department.
