Palm Desert Sheriff's Station Gets New Forensic Technician

The following is a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department:

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is proud to announce the addition of Forensic Technician Jillian Frisby to the Palm Desert Station. Forensic Technician Frisby began her duties on July 1, 2013 and serves the Coachella Valley Cove Communities of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Indian Wells.

In early 2013, the cities of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Indian Wells authorized the Sheriff's Department to add a full-time forensic technician to their police services contract at the Palm Desert Station. Forensic Technician Frisby has been assigned to assist patrol personnel with the collection of evidence at residential and commercial burglaries, robberies, and other crimes occurring in the Cove Communities. Forensic Technician Frisby has been outfitted with a mobile response vehicle and is capable of processing crime scenes for items of evidence, including fingerprints, shoe impressions, and photographs.

This position was created to save patrol officers time and return them to patrol duties as soon as possible while increasing the quality and quantity of evidence collected at the scene of burglaries or thefts. Thefts are the most common type of crime reported in all three Cove Communities and comprise more than 96% of the crimes reported. In 2012, of the 3,380 total Part 1 crimes reported in the Cove Communities, 3,251 of them were theft related property crimes.
