Pedestrian Fatally Struck, Driver Flees, Later Caught

Sara Valencia Rojas, 31 of Coachella, was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run with death.

A motorist was behind bars Sunday, suspected of leaving the scene of a fatal crash that claimed the life of a senior citizen in Coachella.

Sara Valencia Rojas, 31 of Coachella, was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony hit-and-run with death.

She is accused in the fatal injury of Celia Miranda 63, of Coachella, who was pronounced dead at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, in Indio.

Roja remained in custody in lieu of $75,000 bail, pending a Wednesday court appearance, jail records indicated.

The pedestrian suffered grave injuries while crossing Avenue 49, south of Harrison Street, about 5:10 p.m., in Coachella, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Juan Zamora wrote in a news release.

Rojas was found a short time later at Harrison Street, near Sixth Street in Coachella, the sergeant wrote.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
