Police: Three Church Burglaries Happen in Cathedral City in Past Week

Police sought the public's help Friday in investigating three church burglaries -- two at the same church -- in Cathedral City in the past week.

The first burglary was reported about 1 a.m. on Jan. 24 at a church in the 68550 block of Dinah Shore Drive. Electronic equipment and the church's van was stolen, and the church was "ransacked," Cathedral City police Sgt. Corwin de Veas said.

"The van was later found stripped and burned by the CHP," de Veas said.

A second burglary was reported at that church at 8:40 a.m. today, where more electronic equipment was stolen. Shortly before 2:30 p.m., a burglary was reported at another church in the 38000 block of Chuperosa Lane.

"A church volunteer entered the main office and noticed the office had been rifled through," and it appeared electronic equipment and cash had been stolen, de Veas said.
