Police Arrest Gang Members for Halloween Shooting in Desert Hot Springs

Three gang members face possible attempted murder charges following their arrests in connection with a shooting at a Desert Hot Springs house party on Halloween last year, a detective said saturday.

Jeremy Castro, 27, of Cathedral City, parolee Bryan Gonzalez, 20, and a 16-year-old boy, both from Desert Hot Springs, have been arrested for their alleged roles in the shooting near Desert View Road and Via Real on Oct. 31.

Police went to the location that night and found the victim who was later taken to Desert Regional Medical Center. The victim survived but was left paralyzed from the waist down, police said.

Detectives along with the state's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation followed up leads and narrowed their focus specifically on the three suspects. Police plan to recommend that prosecutors file attempted murder charges, Desert Hot Springs police Det. Jim Henson told City News Service.

While Gonzalez was arrested Wednesday the two other suspects were taken into custody sometime in November and December. Henson said the investigation was still active and police wanted to have all three suspects in custody before making their arrests public.

Police said the shooting was gang-related but Henson explained the victim was not a gang member and that no other suspects are being sought in the case.
