Police Arrest Parolee Following Foot Chase

Honoro Hernandez was taken into custody following a foot chase in Thousand Palms.

A parolee was behind bars today on suspicion of leading police on a foot chase in Thousand Palms and possessing a gun that was stolen from a Palm Desert home.

Honoro Hernandez, 35, of Thousand Palms was arrested just before 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 31000 block of Monte Vista in Thousand Palms, according to Sgt. Robert Brooker of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Members of the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau had been patroling the area when the driver of a green Honda Accord got out, threw a black bag as he ran along the side of a house and jumped over a fence, Brooker said.

Deputies grabbed the bag and found a 9mm handgun inside that had been reported stolen from a burglary in Palm Desert, the sergeant said.

The Palm Desert Station Burglary Suppression Team responded and with the help of neighbors track down the suspect three streets away, according to Brooker.

California Department of Corrections Parole Officers also arrived in the area to investigate a computer signal that a parolee ankle bracelet was removed.

The discarded ankle bracelet was found in a backyard that the suspect reportedly entered, and he was discovered hiding in a house.

Honoro Hernandez, 35 of Thousand Palms, was arrested for total of twenty-nine felonies; including a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics, and burglary.
