POLICE BLOTTER: Attempted Kidnapping, Thefts, and DUI

A review of reported crimes from May 23 to May 29 from the Palm Desert Police Department, which is staffed by sheriff's deputies.

Tuesday, May 29 

4:45 a.m.: Officers responded to 77777 Country Club Drive regarding a possible suicide attempt. Andrea Hinojosa, 20, from Indio, was not suicidal. However, she was arrested for public intoxication.

12:15 p.m.: The Burglary Suppression Unit responded to John Glenn Middle School and arrested two male juveniles for possession of stolen property. The juveniles were in possession of a bicycle stolen from the bike shop located at .

4:12 p.m.: Officers responded to the reference two shoplifters detained. Noel Johnson, 24, from Cathedral City, was arrested for shoplifting. Kelly Smith, 26, from Palm Springs, was arrested for commercial burglary, possession of burglary tools, one misdemeanor warrant and two felony warrants.

6:00 p.m.: Officers responded to reference a shoplifter in custody. A 16 year-old resident of Indio was arrested for shoplifting.

Monday, May 28

12:33 a.m.: Officers responded to 9003 Shadow Ridge regarding a domestic disturbance. Antonio Suarez, 33, from Signal Hill, was arrested for domestic battery.

Sunday, May 27

2:30 p.m.: Officers responded to the area of Highway 111 near Plaza Way for a man-down. Brian Beechi, 42, from Palm Desert , was arrested for public intoxication.

Saturday, May 26

2:28 a.m.:   Traffic Officers arrested Leon Herb Kochackis Jr., 51, from Palm Desert, for driving under the influence of alcohol. The arrest occurred at the on Washington Street and Fred Waring Drive.

5:44 p.m.: Officers responded to regarding a theft. Titio Olmedo, 28, from Coachella, was arrested for commercial burglary, possession of methamphetamine and two felony warrants.

Friday, May 25

10:30 a.m.:  The Palm Desert Special Enforcement Team served a search warrant at 74044 Kokopelli, related to a burglary and fraud incident. Keri Stephens, 38, from Palm Desert, was arrested for burglary and possession of methamphetamine.

9:35 p.m.:  Gang Task Force Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop at Palm Desert Drive and Deep Canyon. Jonathan Romero, 21, from Indio, was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant.

11:02 p.m.:  Officers responded to 73373 Country Club reference a domestic disturbance. Travis Pierson, 20, from La Quinta, assaulted his 17-year old girlfriend causing minor injuries. Pierson fled prior to the arrival of the Officers. Pierson is wanted on felony domestic battery charges.

Thursday, May 24

12:13 a.m.:  Officers responded to 74401 Hovley Lane East regarding a man down. A 33-year-old male from Palm Desert was located suffering from an extensive head injury from falling onto the sidewalk. The male was heavily intoxicated and was transported to the Trauma Center.


10:20 a.m.:   Officers responded to 41990 Cook Street to investigate a disturbance. Aaron James, 22, from Indio, was arrested for two outstanding narcotics warrants.


7:19 p.m.:  Officers responded to Myrsine Avenue regarding an that occurred on Fred Waring and Desert Rose. A 21-year old female was walking on Fred Waring when a white male adult in an older grey van pulled up next to her. The suspect asked the victim if she wanted a ride and when the victim declined, the suspect grabbed the victim’s arm. The victim was able to pull away and run from the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male adult in his 40’s, 5’9” tall, stocky build, wearing a black baseball cap with “LA” on it, and a royal blue tee shirt and blue jeans.


10:00 p.m.:  Officers responded to 72534 Edgehill reference a violation of a domestic violence retraining order. Daniel Ruelas, 26, from Palm Desert, was arrested for the violation.

Wednesday, May 23

8:40 a.m.: Officers responded to 74107 Velardo reference an assault. Donica Chavez, 22, from Palm Desert, was arrested for domestic battery.

11:40 a.m.: Officers responded to the 72000 block of Highway 111 regarding embezzlement. Marlana Bacca, 29, from Palm Desert, was arrested for embezzlement of eye glasses and selling them on eBay.

5:00 p.m.: Officers responded to San Luis Rey and Shadow Mountain reference a subject throwing bottles. Brian Beechie, a 42-year-old transient, was arrested for public intoxication

10:13 p.m.: Officers responded to 73650 Ironwood reference a disturbance. Jason Heyman, 28, from La Quinta, fled on foot but was quickly located and arrested for battery.
