POLICE BLOTTER: Child Annoying, Parolee Arrest

A review of reported crimes from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5 from the Palm Desert Police Department, which is staffed by sheriff's deputies.

Sunday, Feb. 5

4:49 a.m.: Officers arrested Daniel Verdugo, 43, of Palm Desert for Felony Child Abuse within the 77700 block of Country Club Drive in Palm Desert.

11:15 a.m.: Officers responded to a major traffic collision at Portola and Frank Sinatra, reference a vehicle versus a bicyclist. The bicyclist was transported to Desert Hospital with multiple lacerations. No charges are pending on the driver.

1:05 p.m.: Officers arrested Bruce Goodman, 61, of Palm Desert for commercial burglary at the Walmart.

6:33 p.m.: Officers responded to Macy's (72780 Hwy 111) in reference to two shoplifters in custody, Dario Juaregui, 19, of Coachella was issued at the scene, and a 16 year old male juvenile was cited and released to his parents.

Saturday, Feb. 4

4:53 a.m.: Officers responded to a collision in the median at Monterey and Dick Kelly, Rancho Mirage. Mariah Anne Poole, 21, of Rancho Mirage was arrested for driving under the influence.

5:22 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to area behind the Target store in Palm Desert regarding four lost hikers. The reporting party was the husband of one of the hikers and had received a phone call from his wife advising him they were lost. Officers located them just south of Magnesia Falls in Rancho Mirage. Desert Search and Rescue responded as well as Star 94. The hikers (two female adults and two children -7 & 8 years old) were located in an isolated area and had to be air lifted out of the hillside.

Friday, Feb. 3

7:30 p.m.: Officers responded to the 74500 block of Avenue 42, the Hovley Garden Apartments, Palm Desert for a disturbance. Deputies had been to the location at 1608 hours but the suspect was not located. At 1930 hours deputies located Martin Rivera, a 45-year-old transient, who was seen grabbing and assaulting a female juvenile. Rivera was positively identified and arrested for annoying or molesting a child.

8:05 p.m.: Officers were flagged down by a tow truck driver at Cook and Sheryl, Palm Desert. The tow truck driver responded to the location to tow a vehicle with two flat tires. The tow driver called because the vehicle’s driver appeared intoxicated. Basil Chapman, 66, of Palm Desert was arrested for DUI.

Thursday, Feb. 2

8:47 p.m.: Officers responded to Wal-Mart, 34500 Monterey, Palm Desert reference a theft call. Pedro Villegas, age 19 of Thousand Palms, was arrested for commercial burglary.

3:45 p.m.: Officers responded to Macy’s, 72810 Highway 111, Palm Desert reference a theft. Stacey Osuna, 24, of Desert Hot Springs was arrested for commercial burglary.

6:35 p.m.: Officers responded to a non-injury traffic collision at Magnesia Falls and San Pablo, Palm Desert. Jacquelyn Cude, 58, of Palm Desert was arrested for DUI.

Wednesday, Feb. 1

3:45 p.m.: Officers responded to AM/PM, 44847 Portola, Palm Desert regarding a theft call. Peter Orlando, a 48 year-old transient, was arrested for commercial burglary. State Parole also placed a hold on him.

Tuesday, Jan. 31

10:20 a.m.: Officers conducted a pedestrian check near the 42000 block of Washington St., Palm Desert and contacted Jeffrey Maxwell Kuhnmench, 42, of Palm Desert. Kuhnmench was arrested for possession of a combination brass-knuckles/switch blade knife.

3:45 p.m.: Officers conducted a warrant service within the 77500 block of California, Palm Desert and arrested Amber Marsh, 39, of Palm Desert, for a felony drug warrant.

4:29 p.m.: Officers responded to Macys, 72810 Highway 111, Palm Desert reference a theft. Yvonne Luna, 39, of Indio was arrested for commercial burglary.

8:08 p.m.: Officers responded to the 74000 block of Alessandro, Palm Desert reference an assault. Christopher Longo, 35, of Palm Desert, was arrested for battery and three warrants.

Monday, Jan. 30

7:45 p.m.: Officers arrested Charley Beushausen, 18, of Cathedral City for a burglary warrant on Wisconsin.

Sunday, Jan. 29

12:02 a.m.: Officers arrested Anthony Campa, 30, of Mission Viejo for public intoxication at the Desert Springs Marriott, outside of Costa's.

1:21 a.m.: Officers arrested Guadalupe Chavez, 42, of Palm Desert at Deep Canyon and Driftwood for Burglary, Assault on a Peace Officer, Violation of Parole, and Criminal Threats. Arrest involved a lengthy search and foot pursuit.

3:25 p.m.: Officers responded to a shoplift call at Target 72547 Highway 111 and arrested Raquel Zarate, 32, of Indio, for a felony warrant additionally; Candice Boulware, 28, of Palm Desert was arrested for check fraud, conspiracy and burglary, and Arlyne Olivas, 24, of Moreno Valley was arrested for check fraud, conspiracy, burglary and a parole hold.
