POLICE BLOTTER: Newsmaking Arrests, DUIs, and a Stolen Bobcat

A review of reported crimes from May 9 to May 15 from the Palm Desert Police Department, which is staffed by sheriff's deputies.

Tuesday, May 15 

7:17 p.m.:  Officers responded to Fred Waring Drive and Portola Avenue regarding a suspicious person. Daielle McCarthy, 21, from Palm Desert, was arrested for public intoxication.

4:15 p.m.:  Traffic Officers conducted a vehicle stop at Washington Street and Sunnybrook Drive.   Candido Delarosa, 56, from Indio, was arrested for driving on a suspended license and being under the influence of heroin. Jose Jesus Limon Marquez, 37, from Indio, was arrested for being under the influence of methamphetamine and being in possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia. Marquez was a passenger in the vehicle. 

10:18 p.m.:  Officers responded to a disturbance at the 77800 block of Michigan Street. John Painter, 48, from Palm Desert, was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.

11:08 p.m.:  Officers responded to for a shoplifter in custody. Price Ray Burns, 59, from Thousand Palms, was arrested for commercial burglary. 

Sunday, May 13 

3:15 a.m.:  An officer was passed at a high rate of speed, by a vehicle with no lights, at Hovely Lane and Eldorado Drive. A short time later officers found a man, determined to be the driver, walking in the area. Victor Hernandez, 30, from Palm Desert, was arrested for felony driving while under the influence and violation of parole.

1:07 p.m.: Officers responded to the area of Fred Waring Drive. and Highway 111 reference a strong armed robbery. The 71-year-old victim told dispatch that a Hispanic male wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans pushed her to the ground and stole her purse. Officers located the suspect vehicle and arrested a 15 year old juvenile and a 16 year old juvenile for robbery. 

10:40 p.m.:  Officers responded to a involving a vehicle and a 4 year old bicyclist at the intersection of Fred Waring Drive and San Pablo Avenue. A gray Toyota truck was traveling eastbound on Fred Waring Drive approaching San Pablo Ave. The driver failed to stop for a red light and struck the juvenile, who was riding southbound on San Pablo Avenue, within the crosswalk. The juvenile sustained moderate to major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

Saturday, May 12 

7:00 a.m.: Officers responded to the 72600 block of Raven Road reference a spousal abuse call. Stephen Cobb, 24, from Palm Desert, was arrested for spousal abuse and destruction of a communication device. Additionally, Harmony Cser, 26, from Mountain Center, was arrested for three outstanding felony narcotics warrants. 

Friday, May 11 

8:30 a.m.: The Resource Officer assisted a patrol officer who had five students detained for truancy. Two of the students were arrested for the alcohol and tobacco violations and three were cited for truancy. The student ages ranged from 15-16 years. 

11:20 a.m.:   Officers responded to the 73800 block of Shadow Mountain Drive to assist La Quinta Police with a theft investigation. James Lassak, 22, from Palm Desert and Adam Gomez, 22, from Cathedral City, were arrested for possession of 11 grams of tar heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a shotgun. 

Thursday, May 10 

10:30 a.m.:   Officers responded to Deep Canyon Road and Highway 111 reference a check fraud. Gina Sanchez, 32, from Banning, was arrested after passing several fictitious checks at . 

2:58 p.m.:  A motorcycle officer witnessed a at Parkview Drive and Joshua Road. The driver of one of the vehicles ran from the scene and forcefully entered a residence within the 43000 block of Joshua Road. Joshua Bartel, 33, from Cathedral City, was arrested after a brief struggle. Bartel was also bit by a dog while inside the residence. The vehicle Bartel was driving was determined to be stolen. 

12:30 p.m.:  The Palm Desert Special Enforcement Team and the Burglary Suppression Team responded to the 77000 block of Michigan Drive and served a search warrant. The search warrant stemmed from an investigation into a purse snatch that occurred at the store at Washington Street and Hovley Lane. Antonio Gardoni, 20, from Palm Desert and Tawney Anthony, 19, from Palm Desert, were arrested for elder abuse, grand theft, burglary and conspiracy. Items from the stolen purse were recovered. While at this location, Rickey Matcham, 21, from Palm Desert, was arrested on an outstanding felony narcotics warrant. 

Wednesday, May 9 

1:51 a.m.:  Officers responded to a report of a stolen trailer on Cook Street. and Interstate 10. A pickup truck towing a utility trailer was loaded with sections of railroad track and a Bobcat tractor. Union Pacific Railroad was contacted and it was determined the railroad track was stolen from the Cook Street area. Shawn Travis Diehl, 24, from Palm Desert, was arrested for possession of stolen property.
