Police: Drunk Driver Crashes into Center Median in Palm Desert, Injures Self

A suspected drunken driver suffered minor injuries when he struck a center median and then crashed into a palm tree in Palm Desert, a police sergeant said Saturday.

Antonio Orozco, 40, was going eastbound on East Hovely Lane about 11:58 p.m. Friday, near Carolotta Lane, when he lost control of his Nissan Sentra, hit the center median and struck the palm tree, said Palm Desert police Sgt. Patrick Carroll.

Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital with minor injuries, Carroll said.

"It's believed alcohol played a role in this collision, and DUI charges will be sought out against Orozco out of custody due to injuries he sustained in the collision," the police sergeant said.
