A 24-year-old Cathedral City man suspected of stealing a water valve in Palm Desert -- and who allegedly was caught with drugs and a weapon -- was behind bars Friday.

About 11:30 p.m. Thursday, sheriff's deputies saw a vehicle leaving the area of some water backflow valves in the 42000 block of Washington Street. When they checked the valves they saw one had been cut and stolen, and followed a vehicle they suspected was involved, sheriff's Sgt. Mike Bianco said.

Deputies stopped the vehicle at Country Club Drive and Cook Street, and detained Jesus Mario Noriega and a woman.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they found the allegedly stolen valve, .75 grams of methamphetamine, 13 grams of marijuana and an illegal weapon, Bianco said.

Noriega was arrested and booked into the county jail in Indio, where he is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail, according to jail records.

That meth is evil, it can turn an ordinary person into a thief by over riding their moral compass.
