Police Report 90 Arrests at Coachella Weekend One

Of the estimated 80,000 festival-goers to the first weekend of Coachella, 90 were arrested, according to police.

Public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and drug-related offenses led to 90 arrests during the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, an Indio police spokesman said Monday.

There were 33 arrests on Friday, 27 on Saturday and 30 on Sunday, according to police spokesman Ben Guitron.

"We didn't have significant issues– obviously we had to deal with the strong, gusty winds, but we managed to get traffic out," Guitron said.

He said the weather wasn't as warm as some years, although the wind picked up on Sunday. The Coachella Valley is under a high wind warning until Tuesday morning, with delays expected on westbound Interstate 10.

Along with the Indio Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs and Cathedral City police provided law enforcement services for the festival, which is held at the 78-acre Empire Polo Club grounds.
