Police Search for Suspect in La Quinta Bank Robbery

A man wearing a blond wig robbed a US Bank branch in La Quinta Saturday and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

A man wearing a blond wig robbed a US Bank branch in La Quinta Saturday and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported.

The hold-up was called in at 1:39 p.m. Saturday from 78345 Highway 111. The suspect entered the branch, walked up to a teller and said he had a gun as he demanded money, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Tapp said.

The suspect ran from the area and was not caught, Tapp said. It was unclear whether a gun was ever seen during the robbery.

Sheriff's detectives described the suspect as white man in his 40s or 50s with a medium build. He was about 6 feet-2 inches tall, sported a handle- bar mustache, a white bandana over his head and a dark-hooded sweatshirt. The suspect also wore blue jeans and gold mirror sunglasses.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the robbery to call Investigator Melissa Nieburger at the sheriff's Thermal station at (760) 863- 8950. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867.
