Police: Wedding Ring Ripped Off Woman in Palm Desert Home Invasion Robbery

After breaking into the house via a doggie door, sheriff's investigators say two men "forcibly" took a wedding ring from an elderly woman, who was sleeping in her bed.

Police are looking for two men wanted in connection to an early morning home invasion robbery that left a homeowner with minor injuries and no wedding ring, a sheriff's official said.

Riverside County Sheriff's Sergeant Ken Black says the incident happened around 2:30 a.m., in the 73000 block of Ironwood Street, just southeast of El Paseo and Highway 74.

Black says two men entered the elderly woman's home through a doggie door.

"The investigation revealed two unknown male suspects entered the residence via an unsecured doggie door attached to the master bedroom slider," the sergeant said.

That's when they targeted the homeowner-- in her bed.

"Once inside the suspects forcibly removed the wedding ring from the elderly female victim sleeping in her bed."

Neither the woman nor her caretaker, who was the only other person at the house, got a good look at her assailants, as they were described as wearing all black clothing, with masks covering their faces.

She did suffer minor injuries in the attack, but was treated by medical personnel at the scene, Black said.

Sheriff's officials say no other items were taken in the break-in.

As awful as it was, it could have been a lot worse. Glad that the victim is okay.

Where was the "doggie" that belonged to the doggie door? And it must have been a very big doggie door to let these guys access through it. Where was her pistol?

Actually, we use to have a "doggie" door but found out that it is not only a Palm Desert Code Violation, but in our case - since it enter through the garage, a fire code violation. I would suggest that every resident of Palm Desert familiarize themselves with Palm Desert Code Compliance: http://www.cityofpalmdesert.org/Index.aspx?page=32
Now, regarding home security - even with high tech security alarms you can't depend on the Police getting to your home or business quickly. Citizens have to control their own safety, property, and businesses. Get a gun and learn how use it. It is the only way these idiots are going to be stopped.

Probably oneof the men had done some "handyman work"around her house and knew how to break in and knew she was a very easy mark.Hope police are looking for someone whodid some work for and who, perhaps, she befriended out of lonliness. Scary!

Monica, you nailed it! "He" had seen that ring before and knew she wore it all the time. He also knew that the dog was no threat. He probably also knew there was nothing much else of value in the home.

I went to the link you provided and saw no mention of doggie doors.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
