A three-vehicle crash in Rancho Mirage led to the arrest of two drivers -- both of whom were allegedly impaired.
Sandy Davis, 58, of Rancho Mirage, and Jose Muniz, 44, of Los Angeles, were both taken to hospitals and arrested when it was determined that they were allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Their cases will be submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney's office for prosecution, sheriff's officials said.
Davis was reportedly driving an Acura north on Highway 111 about 2:45 p.m., when the car struck a center median and ended up on the southbound side, still traveling north.
The car sideswiped a white Mercedes, then hit a Toyota pickup truck driven by Muniz.
Davis' dogs were in the car and were also injured; they were taken to a local veterinary clinic for treatment, officials said.
The driver and passenger in the Mercedes were not injured, according to officials.
