A Rancho Mirage Police officer on patrol arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence after spotting the suspected drunken driver’s car caught up on a curb.
Maarten Jan Dejong, 48, of Rancho Mirage, was booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. According to police, the officer spotted Dejong at 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 69900 Block of Frank Sinatra Drive.
He had tried to pull into a mobile home park but turned too early and instead collided with the curb, according to police. The under carriage of the vehicle, a 1994 Ford Thunderbird, became stuck where its front wheels were not touching the ground, police said.
No one was involved in the incident injured and there was no property damage, officials said.
