Search Warrant Leads to Recovered Stolen Property and Arrests

Deputies served a search warrant Sunday in Desert Hot Springs, recovered stolen property and arrested a man and a woman, a sheriff's sergeant said Tuesday.

Burglary Suppression Team members learned alleged stolen property items were possibly located in the 13000 block of Mesquite Avenue, Sgt. A. Eller of the Palm Desert Station said in a statement.

They got the warrant, went to the home, and found stolen firearms, ammunition, laptop computers, and personal property, Eller said.

"The recovered stolen property had an estimated value of $25,000 and was taken from victims during residential burglaries in the cities of Palm Desert and Palm Springs," Eller said.

Brian Daniel Yearwood, 40, of Thousand Palms, and Sherilinda Mercado, 43, of Desert Hot Springs, were arrested.

Yearwood was accused possession of stolen property,  possession of a loaded firearm, burglary tools, and possession of a controlled substance, Eller said. Mercado was accused of possession of stolen property. Both suspects were booked at the Indio Jail.

Yearwood was released on $50,000 bail Tuesday, according to inmate records. Mercado remained behind bars on $5,000 bail.
