Sheriff's Department To Take Back Drugs

The program allows anyone from the public to drop off any potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

Anyone with unwanted prescription drugs will have the opportunity to drop them off to be destroyed at locations across the county -- including Palm Desert -- on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration are teaming up in the nationwide event for the prescription drug "Take Back Day'' on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. at 2 p.m.

The program allows anyone from the public to drop off any potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at any of the sheriff's stations throughout Riverside County. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.

"Previous Take Back programs have been very successful in Riverside County,'' said sheriff's Sgt. Joe Borja. "During the last program on April 30, residents disposed of 1,262 pounds of prescription drugs.''
