Six People Arrested at Weekend DUI, Driver's License Checkpoint

La Quinta police conducted the operation at Avenue 52 and Madison on Saturday night.

A total of six people were arrested this weekend when La Quinta police conducted a DUI and driver's license checkpoint in town, officials announced.

While only one person was suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol, five others were found driving without an active license, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Corporal Don Olson.

"This DUI/Driver's License checkpoint lowers DUI deaths and injuries," Olson said in a press release.  "A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired bring about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers."

The checkpoint was held in the area of Avenue 52 and Madison Street from 7 p.m. Saturday, through 3 a.m. Sunday, according to the Corporal.

  • 326 Vehicles through the checkpoint
  • 326 Vehicles Screened
  • 1 DUI-Alcohol suspect arrested
  • 5 Drivers cited/arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked
  • 3 Citations issued for having an unrestrained child and open containers
