UPDATE: 60 Firefighters Battle Wind-Fueled Mobile Home Park Blaze: 11 Residents Displaced

Update 4:07 p.m. A contingent of 60 firefighters battled a wind-driven blaze Tuesday at a mobile home community in Moreno Valley, where one home was destroyed, two were severely damaged, and 11 residents were displaced, according to Cal Fire.

"One unit was completely destroyed and the other two units sustained major fire damage," Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in an update. "Eleven (11) residents will be displaced (6 adults and 5 children) and Moreno Valley Office of Emergency Management will assist."

During the height of the blaze residents of 25 units were evacuated to the park club house due to smoke, Hendrickson said. Residents were expected to be able to return to their homes later in the afternoon.

No injuries were reported. One cat was saved by firefighters and returned to the owner.

The fire was reported at 12:06 p.m. Dec. 10 at 25350 Santiago Drive. At 12:41 p.m., Hendrickson said, the blaze was upgraded to a third alarm incident as north winds 20 to 25 mph fueled the flames. A total of 15 engine companies were called out.

Property loss in the blaze was estimated $256,000. Property saved was estimated $2.5 million.

The fire was reported at 12:06 p.m. Dec. 10 at 25350 Santiago Drive, between Kitching Street and Perris Boulevard, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

"The Incident Commander reported three single story, single family mobile homes, well-involved with fire," Hendrickson said.

At 12:41 p.m. Hendrickson said the blaze was upgraded to a third alarm incident as north winds 20 to 25 mph fueled the flames. A total of 15 engine companies were called out.

By 1:10 p.m., the fire was declared contained to the three residential structures, all mobile homes, Hendrickson said in a phone interview.

No injuries had been reported as of 1:45 p.m., Hendrickson said.

"Firefighters will be committed to the scene for approximately one to two hours for salvage and overhaul," Hendrickson said.

Information about the cause of the fire was not released.

Agencies that responded included Cal Fire-Riverside County, the City of Riverside Fire Department, Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company.
