'Sledgehammer' Bandits Linked to Palm Desert Heist

Two Men accused in San Diego area jewelry store robberies are linked to similar robbery in Palm Desert.

Two San Diego men are facing multiple robbery charges, including a violent robbery on El Paseo in October of 2011.

Ryan McKnight and Robert Chavira are accused of robbing several high end jewelry stores across the state, and robbing the Barona Casino, near San Diego.

Investigator say the two men used the same model sledgehammer to shatter jewelry cases in the robberies.

More than  some believed to be from the Octover 26, 2011 robbery of Leeds & Son Jewelers in Palm Desert, were found stashed in a San Diego apartment in January.
