Sprinklers Prevent Major Fire, Displace Residents

Apartment units don't burn, but there's a downside for the residents who live there.

Sprinklers inside a two-story multi-family building put out a fire before it could spread, but caused enough water damage to three units to displace some residents, a Riverside County Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire was reported at 5:25 p.m. Saturday in the multi-unit building in the 50600 block of Eisenhower Drive, said Riverside County Fire Department spokesman Mark Annas.

"The first arriving engine company reported the fire to be out and sprinklers activated," Annas said.

"Water damage was sustained in the apartment of origin and two downstairs apartments, he said. The Red Cross was contacted to help two men, two women and two children in finding other lodging until theirs dries out," he said.
