Stabbing, Attempted Robbery at Bank ATM Alleged: 2 Arrested in Palm Desert

Two men were arrested Thursday night on suspicion of an assault with a deadly weapon and an attempted robbery at a bank ATM in Palm Desert, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The alleged crimes were reported at 9:47 p.m. June 20 in the 34300 block of Monterey Avenue, Sgt. Brad Farwell of the sheriff's Palm Desert station said.

"Deputies arrived and learned the victim was using an ATM machine at a bank in the shopping center when he was approached by two suspects who demanded the victim give them his money," Farwell said. "The suspects attacked the victim and during the attack, the victim was stabbed."

The victim was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, Farwell said.

Law enforcement found two suspects in the immediate area shortly after the crime was reported, Farwell said. They were identified as Miguel Garcia, 19, of Thousand Palms, and Isaac Hernandez, 23, of Pomona.

"Evidence linking Garcia and Hernandez to the crime was found in their possession and both suspects were arrested," Farwell said. "Both Garcia and Hernandez were transported and booked into the Riverside County Jail located in the city of Indio."
