Statewide Fundraiser for Families of Lawmen Slain in Dorner Confrontations

People can take part in the fundraiser by bringing a copy of the event flier to any of California Pizza Kitchen's 72 locations in the state Monday Feb. 25 through Thursday Feb. 28, CPK marketing director Erin Murphy said.

A restaurant chain is planning a statewide fundraiser this week for the families of two law enforcement officers with ties to Redlands and Yucaipa who were slain in confrontations with rogue ex-LAPD cop, multimurder suspect Christopher Dorner.

Riverside police Officer Michael Crain, a resident of Beaumont, was fatally wounded when he was ambushed by Dorner early Feb. 3 at Arlington and Magnolia in Riverside, police said.

San Bernardino County sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay, a resident of Redlands, was fatally wounded when he responded to a cabin where Dorner was holed up south of Big Bear, a final standoff that ended with Dorner's death Feb. 12, sheriff's officials said.

Both men are survived by wives and young children. Their funerals were Feb. 13 in Riverside and Feb. 21 in northwest San Bernardino.

Authorities believe Dorner was accountable for four killings in the space of ten days: a former LAPD captain's daughter and her fiancé in Irvine on Feb. 3, Crain on Feb. 7, and MacKay on Feb. 12.

California Pizza Kitchen is partnering with the Riverside Police Officers' Association and the Sheriff's Employee Assistance Team of San Bernardino to support the families of Crain and MacKay, a restaurant spokeswoman said.

Customers can get 20 percent of their checks donated to RPOA and S.E.A.T. by bringing a copy of the event flier to any of California Pizza Kitchen's 72 locations statewide Monday Feb. 25 through Thursday Feb. 28, CPK marketing director Erin Murphy said.

A printable copy of the fundraiser flier is attached to this report.

"We are doing this fundraiser," Murphy told Redlands-Loma Linda Patch in a phone interview Feb. 22. "We're happy to help raise money for these families."

The flier is good for the fundraiser all day during store operating hours Monday through Thursday this week, Murphy said.

The nearest California Pizza Kitchens to Redlands and Loma Linda are in Riverside, Rancho Cucamonga, Chino Hills, Temecula and Palm Springs, according to the restaurant chain.

Every single California Pizza Kitchen restaurant in the state of California is taking part. To find a local CPK, visit www.cpk.com/locations. For more information about the fundriaser visit www.cpk.com/fundraiser.

Washy. Well since they are so wonderful how much do you think they should earn. My brother is a FF and he is tempted to retire early. He is sick of taking grandma to the hospital, but since they pay him up the butt, he will endure.

desertp. I agree. Washy: OK. The paramedic takes grandma to the hospital, but the FD sends all its 20Ton engines to the board and care home and waste everyone's time, not to mention, sleep, if it is at night.

I'd donate to that cause.
