This story was last updated at 10:55 a.m.

A hiker has been airlifted out of the Palm Desert hills after being stranded overnight.

74-year-old John Kelley called for help about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, saying he was
stranded in the hills near Edgehill Road and Eagle Drive, above Cap Homme/Ralph Adams Park sheriff's Cpl. Angel Ramos said.

Desert Search and Rescue units determined that because of terrain and darkness, the rescue would have to be postponed until morning, and advised Kelley to seek shelter for the night.

"He was an expert hiker ... it was too late to rescue him (last night) so this morning with the use of a helicopter, he was airlifted out,'' Ramos said.

Kelley was rescued at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, and did not require medical treatment.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
