Sunnylands Opens for Earthquake Preparedness Day

Public is invited to a day to emergency prep before 'the Big One' strikes.

The Great California Shakeout will take place on October 18, but Sunnylands Center & Gardens in Rancho Mirage is getting a head start on getting ready for 'the big one'.

A day of earthquake preparedness has been scheduled for this Sunday, September 16, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

According the Sunnylands spokeswoman Mary Perry, a schedule of the demonstrations and lectures are posted on the Sunnylands website.  Lectures include The Science Behind the Great California ShakeOut, Shaking Out in the Desert, and Preparing for an Earthquake in the Desert.  Activities for children are also planned, including a display of emergency vehicles.

The event is in partnership with the Earthquake Country Alliance (ECA), San Bernardino County Museum, Southern California Earthquake Center,  PREP (City of La Quinta's People Responding with Emergency Preparedness) and the Rancho Mirage Fire Department.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
