Suspect Arrested in La Quinta Kidnapping Robbery

Jesus Jonathan Garcia, 21, was arrested in Coachella in connection with the robbery of a man who gave two men a ride, then was dropped off somewhere in the desert.

La Quinta police Saturday released a mug shot of one suspect accused of robbing a driver who gave him a ride, then taking him out to the desert, where the suspect and an accomplice put him out of his vehicle.

Jesus Jonathan Garcia, 21, was arrested in Coachella in connection with the robbery, reported about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Tapp.

He was later booked into the county jail on suspicion of kidnapping and robbery.

The victim had given two men a ride, and the one sitting in back pulled out a gun and robbed the driver, Tapp said in a news release.

They took the victim out to the desert and let him go, the sergeant said. The cops were called from the area of Avenue 52 and Jefferson Street, the sergeant wrote.

The other suspect was still at large Saturday.

The intersection of Avenue 52 and Jefferson is hardly "out in the desert"......it's the site of the most dangerous thruway in the valley.
