Suspected DUI Driver Arrested, 9 Vehicles Towed

Sheriff's deputies staffing a checkpoint in Palm Desert also arrested 16 drivers for allegedly license violations.

One suspected DUI driver was arrested by sheriff's deputies staffing a checkpoint overnight Friday, and another motorist was collared for an alleged active warrant on a prior DUI charge.

Out of 1057 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint on Washington Street, north of Fred Waring Drive, 915 of those were screened, according to sheriff's Sgt. Dave Adams.

The checkpoint was held between 8 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies administered 19 field sobriety tests, Adams said, and arrested 16 motorists for alleged license violations.

Nine vehicles were impounded, the sergeant said.
