Suspected DUI Driver Speeds Away From Cops, Crashes Into Parked Cars

An alleged drunken driver who led sheriff's deputies on a chase in La Quinta early Sunday, crashed his SUV into two parked cars and was later arrested.

Deputies tried pulling over the driver of the sport utility vehicle that was caught speeding at 1:50 a.m. on southbound Eisenhower Drive at Calle Tampico, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. John Clark said.

However, the man behind the wheel, identified as Paul Jimenez Milward, did not stop for authorities, police said.

"Milward ran several stop signs and continued to drive at a high rate of speed," Clark said.  "Milward drove a short distance, losing control of his vehicle and running into two unoccupied parked cars in the 51500 block of Avenida Herrera."

Milward, 29, of Indio, was first taken to a hospital as a precaution. Milward was arrested and booked on suspicion of misdemeanor drunken driving, evading and another violation.
