Teen Accused of Drinking, Smoking Pot, & Texting Before La Quinta Crash

A 17-year-old Indio boy was arrested early Tuesday morning, accused of crashing into a parked car after committing a wide range of offenses, police said.

The unidentified teenager was arrested following the crash on Calle Placido south of Calle Palmeto, in La Quinta, around 1:30 a.m., according to sheriff's Sergeant Randy Vasquez.

"Investigation revealed that the driver...had been drinking and smoking marijuana at a friend's residence in the area," Vasquez said.  "As the 17-year-old male was driving south on Calle Placido, he was distracted by a text on his cell phone, and collided with a parked car."

Four passengers ran out of the vehicle after the crash as police arrived on scene, according to the sergeant.  The driver, though, was taken into custody, arrested, and then released to his parents' custody.

"Charges of driving under the influence will be filed with the District Attorney's Office," Vasquez said.

No one was hurt in the crash.
