Teen Arrested in Connection to Palm Desert CVS Robbery

Police say the Indio man tried to steal a bottle of alcohol and assaulted the store clerk when he tried to stop him.

An 18-year-old Indio man was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing a bottle of alcohol from a CVS Pharmacy in Palm Desert and attacking an employee as he was leaving.

The robbery was reported shortly after 1 a.m. at the CVS in the 42000 block of Washington Street, near Hovley Lane East, after a man apparently tried to grab a bottle of booze and make a run for it.

"The male suspect assaulted the employee as he ran out the door with the alcohol," sheriff's Sgt. Ken Black said.

The employee received minor injuries, but didn't need medical treatment, Black said.

The suspect, identified as Angel Michael Rivas, was arrested at the intersection of Washington and Avenue of the States and booked into the county jail in Indio.

He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and was expected to be arraigned on Monday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
