Teen Girl Dies, Teen Boy Arrested, in Indio Crash

The crash was reported about 4 a.m. on Adams Street, near Avenue 40, according to Indio police spokesperson Ben Guitron.

A teenage girl died of injuries suffered in a crash early Sunday in the city of Indio and the teenage boy who was driving was taken into custody for alleged DUI, a police spokesperson said.

The Jeep crashed about 4 a.m. on Adams Street, near Avenue 40, according to Indio police Sgt. Ben Guitron.

Another passenger in the vehicle, also a teenage girl, left the scene but later walked into a hospital emergency room for treatment and police were notified, Guitron told Patch.

The three people identified by police were all between 17 and 19 years old, Guitron said.

The third passenger in the vehicle also left the scene but no information on that person has been garnered by police, the sergeant said.

Police urge anyone with information to call investigators at 760-391-4051 or call Coachella Valley Crimestoppers at 760-341-STOP.

That's the problem with DUI traffic stops; Massive police presence stopping everyone on the street (totally unlawful despite what courts say) and less than 1% of DUI drivers are caught - huge waste of resources but it makes it look like police are earning their pay. I said: less than 1%. Meanwhile 99% of DUI drivers are out there driving - look at this accident. I say: STOP THE DUI CHECKPOINTS and use the money/resources and officers to do 5 things - 5 other things that would find the other 99% and prevent tragedies like this. If someone cares to know what those 5 things are, feel free to email me at bigclaim@aol.com First of all I propose we recall all city and county politicians for perpetrating this DUI checkpoint on all of us - and leave those 99% out there to cause mayhem and death, read this article for example. One of the 5 things I would do instead of DUI check points would have prevented this accident - but nobody is listening because it is all about bullying the public, not protecting people or preventing accidents.

The problem is not the police Michael. It's families who let their children run wild in this case, and courts who do not impose stiff penalties on DUI's in the first place. If one percent are caught as you suggest, that's one percent that aren't driving drunk! I say good job. There isn't any effective way to "catch" a drunk driver once he's behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Between the age of 17 and 19 to me are considered adults or at least know right from wrong, what they should and shouldn't be doing by then it's the persons fault no one else's this is the problem with this society everyone wants to point their fingers at someone else. Everyone is entitled to make there own choice but with that choice comes responsiblity. And with every choice just remember, it not only effects yourself but everyone around You!

On top of the fact that the DUI check points do not really work, if the police set up a check point at the intersection where this accident occurred, they would be more apt to find DUI drivers than setting up at a MAJOR INTERSECTION as most of the drunk drivers use back streets such at the area where this accident occurred. I know, I live there....
Reginia Sam March 4, 2013 at 09:44 pm
I think they use the back streets more too.

Thanks for your replies. The issue is not the police although it appears I am picking on them - the issue is the style of government we have which is not lawful. Do some study and determine if my comment is correct:

Thanks Linda. The 5 "points" I suggest deal with just that issue you raise "once behind the wheel". Thanks. M.S. spokesperson for THE LAST AMENDMENT

@B.K.-- Thank you for your help with the community :) I have a great respect for all teachers!

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
