Teens Arrested Following Brief Police Chase

Four teenagers were arrested Thursday on suspicion of breaking into a home, police said. Two were booked into Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

Four teenagers, who fled Palm Springs police in a stolen car, were arrested Thursday on suspicion of breaking into a home and other charges, police said.

Daniel Morales, 19, Vincent Garcia, 18, and two boys, 15 and 17, all from Cathedral City, were arrested near Hermosa Drive and Tahquitz Canyon Way about 2 a.m. in a stolen car, Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said.

About an hour earlier, an officer spotted four people in a black 1996 Saturn sedan that was reported stolen in Cathedral City a few hours earlier near Calle Rolph and Alejo Road, he said.

The officer tried to stop the car, he said. Moments later the four suspects bailed out, but police arrested them nearby, Kovaleff said.

About the time the stolen car was spotted, police were alerted to a residential alarm in the 700 block of Calle Rolph and learned the home had been burglarized, Kovaleff said.

"During a search of the four males and the vehicle, property stolen from the residence was recovered," he said.

All four were arrested on suspicion of burglary. Morales also was booked on suspicion of possession of stolen property and violating his probation, Kovaleff said.

Garcia was additionally booked on suspicion of driving the stolen vehicle.

Morales and Garcia were jailed at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. Morales was denied bail, and Garcia was held on $35,000 bail, according to jail records.

Both are scheduled to be arraigned Monday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.

The 17-year-old was taken to Juvenile Hall in Indio, and the 15-year-old was released to his guardians, Kovaleff said.
