The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was scheduled to re-open at 10 a.m. Wednesday while 40 personnel remained assigned to the 60-acre Tram Fire.
The fire broke out in the upper parking lot for the attraction Tuesday afternoon and prompted tram officials to evacuate visitors and close the tram for the rest of the day.
The smoking, smoldering burn area high in east Chino Canyon was considered 20 percent contained Wednesday morning and full containment was hoped for by 8 p.m. Aug. 7.
"We are grateful to the firefighters for their quick response and hard work in getting this fire under control," Tramway general manager Rob W. Parkins said in a statement distributed Wednesday morning.
Palm Springs Fire Department personnel were investigating the cause of the fire.
The first Tram up for paying visitors was scheduled at 10 a.m.

Long Valley, which includes the Desert View Trail and a self-guided nature walk, is open. Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness Area remain closed due to the 43-square-mile Mountain Fire burn area. Hiking and camping are not permitted.
