UPDATE: Trial Conference Continued for Jamie Smith

Smith is accused of stabbing a COD teammate during a fight in 2011

Today's trial readiness conference for Jamie Smith, the former College of the Desert football player accused of stabbing a teammate during a fight last year, has been continued until September.  Smith remains in custody on $1 million bail. 

Defense attorneys made the request for more time to prepare their case today in an Indio courtroom before Superior Court Judge Thomas N, Douglass.

Smith  last September to charges of attempted murder with malice and assault with a deadly weapon during a fight with a teammate over allegedly stolen property.

Smith's arrest was one of those named as a reason that College of the Desert has opened an investigation into the Roadrunner football program.
