Two Nabbed on Suspicion of DUI at Weekend Checkpoint

 Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint in Palm Springs this weekend, police reported Monday.

Palm Springs police conducted the checkpoint from 8:30 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday on South Palm Canyon Drive at Morongo Road. Almost 800 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 19 cars were sent to an area for further inspection, Sgt. Harvey Reed said.

He said five sobriety tests were given and two people were arrested for DUI. Police conducted 14 driver's license checks, resulting in one driver being cited for driving with a suspended license and three vehicles being towed.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
