Two Palm Desert Fires Break Out Within One Mile Radius

Two homes caught fire in the same area of Palm Desert Thursday, but firefighters have managed to contain both.

Firefighters have had a busy day in Palm Desert, responding Thursday to two fires just a couple hours apart-- and only a half a mile away from each other.

The most recent non-injury fire was reported at about 11:45 a.m. at 10 Cholla Lane in the Silver Spur Mobile Home Park, which is located off Highway 74, just north of Bighorn Golf Club.

The blaze-- which was "well involved" at a single-wide mobile home when firefighters arrived-- was contained about 25 minutes later, and it was unclear if the home was occupied or vacant, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

Firefighters were expected to be at the scene for another hour for cleanup, according to Hagemann.

Earlier Thursday, firefighters knocked down another house fire in Palm Desert, and were able to contain that one to just the home's chimney area.  That one was located at Bighorn.
