Woman Accused of DUI in Gas Station Parking Lot Crash

A woman was arrested Thursday and accused of driving while intoxicated when she allegedly crashed her pickup into a Honda Accord in a gas station parking lot in Palm Desert, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Deputies responded to a report of the crash at 7:08 p.m. Jan. 2 in the Chevron parking lot at Highway 111 and Plaza Way, Sgt. Radek Horkel of the Palm Desert Station said in a statement.

"The driver of a white, Ford Ranger backed into a white, Honda Accord that was parked," Horkel said. "The investigation revealed that alcohol was a factor during this traffic collision."

No one sustained any injury as a result of the crash, Horkel said.

The Ford driver, Roberta Ann Taggart, 65, of Palm Desert, was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and booked at Indio Jail, Horkel said.

Taggart was cited for DUI and released Friday morning on $2,500 bail. She has a court date March 11 in Indio, according to inmate records.

Anyone with more info was urged to call the Palm Desert Police Department at 760-836-3215 or Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
