A woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of DUI in connection with a rear-end crash into a Mercedes sedan in Rancho Mirage, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The crash was reported as a hit-and-run at 7:38 p.m. Oct. 24 and deputies responded to Country Club Drive and Bob Hope Drive, Sgt. David Wright of the Palm Desert Station said.

"Officers located the suspect vehicle several miles from the location and detained the driver," Wright said.

Investigation revealed a female driver of a grey 2012 Honda Accord rear-ended a white Mercedes C350 while it was stopped at a traffic signal and Country Club and Bob Hope, Wright said.

"No one was injured as a result of the collision and the roadway remained open during the investigation," Wright said.

The driver, identified as Tracy Lynette Townsend, 57, of Corona, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Wright said.

Townsend was booked at Indio Jail and released late Wednesday on $2,500 bail, according to inmate records. She has a court date in January.
